Grabbing the Amazon by the Pussy
How the Right Wing agenda is now threatening the entire Planet’s existence
Words matter in election campaigns. And we don’t get any better examples of this than the slogans used by “populist” so called “leaders” in the past decade. Looking through the words used by Trump, Boris, Bolsonaro and their like-minded colleagues across the world, there are more than just common threads in their slogans and their behaviour: we are actually talking about the same exact type of person. They are all brothers from the same womb.
By pulling these threads together we can build a better understanding of the type of personality we are dealing with, the motivations and psyches of the men that, today, whether we like it or not, govern most of our world. For the purposes of this article, and because these guys don’t deserve to be called leaders in my very humble opinion, I will refer to them collectively as the Crazies.
A Tale of White Men, Taking and “Owning”
From Trump’s “Grab them by the Pussy”, to Boris Johnson’s “Take back control”, to Bolsonaro’s “I would never rape you, because you don’t deserve it”, the Crazies have all embodied the heterosexual primeval male who rapes and pillages to get his way. Often described as “mavericks”, they have enjoyed appeal in the eyes of both male and female voters because they embody the “hero” who does the dirty, supposedely brave job of burning down the enemy’s village in order to save his own kind. Their argument is that they are indeed heroes, and that they are doing all of this for us.
It is not a suprise that they are all white men: born into privilege, both Boris and Trump fit the profile of “super spoilt white kids” who believe they are entitled to the world. But besides that, they are men: it is men who rape, it is men who are the most selfish gender. And this is why we are in dire need of women in power, more than ever.
Opportunistic Parasites
The truth is, the crazies have been motivated by self-interest all of their lives. Take Trump for example, who appears to never really have made any honest money in his life. Everything he’s built was either passed down to him or borrowed, and his whole philosophy about business is to get away with illegality if you can. We never saw his tax forms. Bolsonaro at least has been more honest, once saying: “It’s my advice and I do it: I evade all the taxes I can”
The voters have failed to realise that everything that the Crazies do, they do it for themselves and no one else. The Crazies are nothing but opportunistic parasites, feeding on electorates that are hungry for a hero who will take the “slash and burn” approach.
But the danger of being an opportunistic parasite is much greater than we think. Every parasite only cares about itself, and the parasite can eventually kill its host. The Crazies are in power just at a time when the planet needs leaders with compassion and empathy, who can actually care about the climate, the ecosystems, and the irreparable damage being done to nature. The Crazies do not have one empathetic cell in their entire body. They don’t even know what empathy is. Not only do the Crazies not care about the fact that our world is coming to an end, they also of course do not care about the people in it. This latter attribute is the most dangerous one.
Whatever it takes for self-preservation
This means that, if needed, the crazies will start a war, do more damage to the environment, whatever it takes in order for them to cling to power. When pressured, they can begin to eliminate even their closest confidants, as dictators often do. We actually have not seen these guys in action yet. Some of us like to underestimate them as “idiots”, thinking that our Western Democracies are too powerful to be brought down, and that surely a big “correction” will happen at some point.
But the Planet is running out of time. Just yesterday Trump eliminated caps on Methane pollution, a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than CO2. He is doing it only to protect his own seat, by winning the favours of the powerful fossil fuel industry. The crazies are so parasitic and opportunistic, they will sacrifice a 3.5 billion year-old planet just so they can save their presidency for the next few years.
The Crazies have got to go. We need to bring them down. Because if we don’t, they will surely wreck the Planet with their selfish behaviour.
